North of the River or South: Pick Your Side
Perth folk stay loyal to their side of the Swan, and you can use that. A first drink a few suburbs from home means fewer faces you know and a short drive back.
Perth is a car town, but the trains help: the Yanchep line runs up the middle of the Mitchell Freeway and the Mandurah line down the Kwinana, so Joondalup's about half an hour from the city and Mandurah under an hour.

Timing a Perth First Date Around the Doctor
Perth summers are hot and dry. The Fremantle Doctor, the sea breeze that blows in on most summer afternoons, makes a coastal drink at five o'clock bearable while the eastern suburbs are still baking.
Winter's the wet season, so trade the beach for a bar in Northbridge or Leederville, and keep the Swan Valley for a sunny spring arvo.
WA doesn't do daylight saving, so in summer Perth sits three hours behind Sydney and Melbourne. A 9pm message from Perth lands at midnight in Sydney, so think before you hit send.
